It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? #2

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at A Book Journey. The idea is to plan out your reading week and see what others are reading as well.

Here’s my last Monday Reading post. It’s been awhile since I did a What Are You Reading post and I just feel like doing another one. Why not?

The reviews posted from the last post: Morning Rising by Samantha Boyette, Age of Giants: Awakening by Rob Reaser, The Cause by Clint Stoker.

I only have currently reading and up next this time ’round. Took a bit of time off from reading to play Skyrim… I’m not addicted. No, not at all.

Currently Reading

The Antithesis 2a by Terra Whiteman

Qaira Eltruan is the Commandant of the Enforcers, Sanctum’s Special Military Sect of angel exterminators. The war against the Archaeans has been nothing but a seventy-year stalemate, however all of this is set to change with the arrival of a mysterious Scholar who can serve to sway the battle in their favor. But this Scholar has secrets of her own…

Secrets that may kill them all.

The sequel to The Antithesis and I wish I had more of the day, and free time, to read part two all in one go! I thought the last one was great so I’m pretty happy to be reading this right now.

Up Next

it’s a toss up between two books. Battle Royale and The Antithesis 2b. I’ve been wanting to read Battle Royale for over a year now and I finally feel it’s time to pick it up. So I guess it all depends on how The Antithesis 2b ends or when I buy the next one.

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami

Koushun Takami’s notorious high-octane thriller is based on an irresistible premise: a class of 42 junior high school students are taken to a deserted island where, as part of a ruthless authoritarian program, they are electronically collared, provided with weapons of varying potency, and sent out onto the island. If they are in the wrong part of the island at the wrong time, their collars will explode. If they band together to save themselves a collar will explode at random. If they try to escape from the island, they will be blown up. Their only chance for survival lies in killing their classmates.

Criticized as violent exploitation when first published in Japan – where it then proceeded to become a runaway bestseller – Battle Royale is a Lord of the Flies for the 21st century, and a potent story of politics and survival in a dog-eat-dog world.

    • So far The Antithesis has been a pretty interesting and unexpected story. It’s definitely far more creative than I was anticipating that’s for sure.

  3. Battle Royale sounds like my kind of book! Wonder if you could class it as Dystopian?? Check out my Monday here

  5. A friend of mine recommended Battle Royale to me. It’s on my wishlist.

This weekend we went on a mini-vacation. Since I was outside enjoying nature, I didn’t get much reading done. Please stop by to see what I’m reading now.
